I am interested in taking some lessons with you. i am currently taking the Blues to Standards workshop with Tim Price- New York Jazz Workshop. I am a classical percussionist and composer looking to expand my playing, improve my ear and develop as a 'jazz' player. I come from a very experimental, avant-garde music background- more about sonorites, timbre... My ear was never developed in the tradition of tonality- I played mostly non-pitched percussion and when I played pitcched percussion it was always very technical, dissonant music. I look forward to hearing from you. 917-647-6563, JoAnne Maffia

Hi -
On Monday, January 28th we have planned a benefit concert, "40 Years of Jazz Fame" honoring Justin DiCioccio who created the jazz program at the High School of Music & Art (now LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts). We would be honored if you would join us for the evening and perform. The program will feature standard jazz classics and there will be a talk down rehearsal and dinner prior to the concert. We are putting together 2 groups for the concert and the finale will feature everyone.
As one of our notable alumni, your participation would make the event very special. Justin also asked that we invite you and Gabriel Kosakoff (a member of the A&F Board) is working with us on planning the event.
Alumni & Friend's mission is to provide scholarships, grants, awards and other assistance to students and the school that enhance the art education beyond traditional funding from the Department of Education and ensure that future generations receive the same high quality arts education that we did. Last year, A&F gave over $300,000 and provided $150,000 of equipment to the school and it's students. In light of budget cuts and tough economic times A&F's support is event more critical than ever, and we are hoping this event will provide additional support to the school.
We hope you can join us to honor Justin. Feel free to call me if you have any questions.
Warmly,
Barbara

Hey, Mark --
Looks like you\'re in Atlanta today. Don\'t know when you\'ll see this.
Thanks a lot for sending the CD. It\'s another great capture of the music and the band\'s live performance energy. I certainly enjoyed my first listening.
I told my friend in Switzerland about it, reviewer Juerg Sommer.
I forget, did I promise to pay you for this, or is it complimentary? Either way sounds good to me.
Keep the beautiful music coming. It\'s the only thing keeping insanity away!

Hi Mark. My brother raised me on crazy music and one of the albums we had the most fun with was Fulcrum Point. My bro went to SUNY Old Westbury and studied under Woody. My favorite song was Goofy. This was because the time on that was sick. My brother taught me how to follow it but I couldn't tell you what it was. He's the musician, I am the math head. I have to have this album. I am pretty broke so if I could just get the song , I'll find a way to get the album later. Even if you can't help, thanx... you were a pleasure to listen to. Big part of my upbringing. Chris Wilson

I play sax semi-professionally and would like to participate.
How would I find out more?
Thanks again for a great evening.

Hi, Mark --
I took a vibraphone lesson with you a few years ago. I've just purchased a used Jenco vibes (probably from the '50's). Do you have any advice on how to clean it? -- Aluminum polish? A buffing wheel? Do I need to worry about altering the bars or throwing them out of tune in cleaning them?
I'd appreciate any advice you might have, and I'll look forward to seeing you again soon for another lesson.
Best,

Hi Mark,
I don\\\'t know if you remember me, but I met you at Cheltenham High School in Wyncote, Pa back in 1974 or so. I went with you to New York a couple of times, and you introduced me to the musci of some jazz musicians like Art Blakey and Elvin Jones. I enjoyed hanging out with you. How are you doing? I am enjoying family life and I actually play accoustic guitar and sing lots of standards. I would love to hear from you and see if you do remember me.

Hello Mark,
My name is Jason Raso. I am a musician (bassist) from Ontario, Canada. I am currrently working on my new CD. This is my seventh release, but my first "real" jazz album. I am very excited about this new project.
I have 3 songs that I would love to have vibes on. I was wondering if there was anyway I could hire you to play on this project. I realize this a long shot, but I figured "why not shoot for the best?". I would be very honoured if you would even give these tracks a listen. I would also totally understand if you decided not to.
If this is a possiblilty, I would have my engineer send you the tracks and you could overdub your tracks at your studio.
You can hear some of my work at www.myspace.com/jasonrasotrio
Thank you very much for your time.

I am a photographer from denver, In 2006 I was the primary photographer at the denver jazz fest and per your request I was nice enough to send a disc of all the images from that event to you. Since then many of these images have been used on your site and as promotional shots that have been published on other site and possibly print sources too. I don't normaly work for free and all I would ask is for credit of my work. It's hard for me to use clips from your site or from other sites that have published my work without credit. Normally I charge a minimum of $200 and I would likely charge more for an event like the jazz fest. I sent you the photo's to benifit us both so I would appreciate it if in the future you could give me credit for my work .

Mark,
Thank you for stopping by. I just completed the grant proposal I planned on submitting to the principals for signing.
However, I just received this message below from Max's mom. Max is my 1st chair trumpet player and is quite a good musician. I am deeply concerned about his strong feelings regarding what occurred during rehearsal last night and will make a point of speaking to his mom personally today Although this project seemed to suit our needs very nicely, I wonder if the other students feel the same as I do. They are, needless to say, the reason I love my job here at Haldane and the ones who most clearly determine my ultimate decisions and direction.
Please allow me the time to make more inquiries and seek more advice from my supervisors before we continue with this venture.
Sincerely,
Debbie

Hi Mrs. Contini,
I am really concerned about Max and this evening's Jazz band class.
He doesn't tell me a whole lot about school these days but he sure
had a lot to say tonight during the ride home. He is completely
humiliated because of what this new person helping out tonight had to
say about his guitar playing. Max also feels badly about how this
person treated his friend Stefano and this person's overall criticism
of the class.
Who is this person and why is he trying to discourage my son? Max is
passionate about music and I hope he always will be. A few more
sessions like this and I'm not so sure.
When you have a moment, would you just fill me in on what to expect
in the coming weeks. Will this man be there every week?
Thank you for your time.
Regards,
Maureen (Max's mom)

Hi, Mark
I was the Tympanist with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, when you played with us in New York, around 1982. It was great to see you in the AFM mag,. and am glad you're doing well. I still remember your vibes hooked up to "new" electronics, and blowing me away...
I'm teaching in Toronto, now.
Keep on doin' it, man!\

Hi Mark,
Don't know if we've ever met, but I read the article about you in the International Musician. What caught my attention was your connection to Elvin. I'm about to release my first album that features Elvin, Don Alias and the NDR BigBand. You can see some info at:

Been fanatical about jazz for nearly sixty years. Love it when I hear someone new and special in the jazz world. Sorry to say I'd never heard of you until someone said pick up this guys latest album "Live at the Bird's Eye". Well I'm listening to it for the third time and I'm absolutely knocked out. Fabulous stuff. The whole band is superb. I will be spreading the word and will mention this album on the jazz website I run. Will be aquiring all your previous albums.
Thank you for some great music.
All the best

Hi Mark,
I met you in Columbia Maryland at the Jazz Fest - 2008 Claude Ligon House of Jazz and bought your The Birds Eye CD. I must say it is outstanding!! I listen to it in my car all the time. Not only is the music great the audio engineering is excellent. I have an extensive studio myself with four Bose 901s, two OHM Fs and two Yamaha monitors all with their own 400watt amps. So I can listen you LIVE anytme I want. I am an electrical engineer and wannabe musician. Check out my website www.franklincellars.com. Send me an email and I will send you a bottle of wine that is as good as your music!
Thanks again for a great perfromance in Columbia, MD!

Hi Mark,
Saw your show last Saturday in Vancouver, BC at the Jazz Cellar Cafe. It was fabulous!
Bought your live in Basel CD and loving it, but unfortunately some of the songs, especially most of the 2nd CD, skip through the songs and won't play.
Any chance I can return it to you and get a new one that works properly?
THanks, Brigitte Rigby
